Who is Dr Tito Daodu?

Dr. Tito Daodu is a pediatric surgeon, researcher, and educator whose work focuses on improving equity and access in healthcare systems. Through her clinical practice, academic research, and public engagement, she examines how structural barriers influence patient outcomes and how healthcare institutions can build more inclusive systems. She currently serves as a pediatric surgeon at Alberta Children’s Hospital and as an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary.

Born in Nigeria and raised in Winnipeg, Dr. Daodu’s early experiences shaped her understanding of the complex social and economic factors that influence health and opportunity. Growing up in a diverse community, she witnessed firsthand how inequities in healthcare access could affect families and communities. These experiences ultimately guided her decision to pursue a career in medicine and public health.

Education & Training

Dr. Daodu earned her medical degree from the University of Manitoba before completing her pediatric surgical training in Calgary.

She later pursued a Master of Public Health from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where she focused on health systems, population health, and equity in healthcare delivery.

She also completed a Graduate Certificate in Global Surgical Care from the University of British Columbia, expanding her work into international health systems and surgical access.

Research and Clinical Work

Dr. Daodu’s work bridges clinical practice and academic research. As a pediatric surgeon, she provides specialized care to children and families while contributing to medical education and mentorship for future physicians.

As a researcher, she studies how race, geography, and structural inequalities influence surgical outcomes. She has secured more than $1 million in research funding and has published extensively on equity-focused healthcare systems.

Leadership & Community Engagement

Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Daodu has remained deeply engaged in community initiatives. For more than a decade, she has worked with youth organizations as a mentor, volunteer, and board member.

Her community involvement has included mentorship programs, educational initiatives, and youth development programs designed to empower the next generation of leaders.
